The screenplay was written by Yılmaz Güney and directed by Şerif Gören and Yılmaz Güney together. Being the first Turkish film to win the Palme d’Or, it is among the Cannes award-winning Turkish films. Tarık Akan, Necmettin Çobanoğlu, Halil Ergün and Meral Orhonsay play the leading roles in the successful film. One of the cult films of Turkish cinema, Yol deals with the life story of five inmates who came out of İmralı Open Prison for holiday leave.
