Regarding the alphabet, the Ottomans were indeed very intelligent people. They used the Arabic alphabet as their property. They created a magnificent language once. Ottoman Turkish is a very big language. It is an expressive language that can reveal all kinds of complex subtleties with a tremendous expressive ability.

This language has a dictionary of the famous Sir James Redhouse, who made a lexicon between English and Turkish, which was published in 1890. English-English Lexicon. He says there, 1890, that there are two major languages in the world, one English and one Ottoman Turkish. There are a hundred thousand words in these two languages. He says I have finished ninety thousand of them, I am publishing them as a dictionary, if my life is loyal, I will complete them.

Alfabeyle ilgili Osmanlılar hakikaten çok zeki insanlardı. Arap alfabesini Arapçayı kendi malları gibi kullandılar. Muhteşem bir dil yarattılar bir kere. Osmanlı Türkçesi çok büyük bir dildir. Çok büyük muazzam ifade yeteneği olan her türlü karmaşık incelikleri ortaya koyabilen ifade edebilen bir dildir.

Bu dilin İngilizce ile Türkçe arasında Lugat yapan meşhur Sir James Redhouse’un 1890’da çıkmış lugatı vardır. Turkish-English Lexicon diye. Orada diyor ki dünyada 1890 iki büyük dil var bir İngilizce bir de Osmanlı Türkçesi diyor. Bu iki dilde yüzer bin kelime var. Ben bunların doksan binini bitirdim lugat olarak yayınlıyorum diyor ömrüm vefa ederse tamamlıyacam.

İki büyük dil dediği İngilizce 1890’da biliyorsunuz İngiltere süper güç idi. Dünyaya hakimdi. Dili henüz hakim değildi. Diplomatik dil Fransızca’ydı o zaman yüz sene önce de İtalyanca idi ama İngilizce de büyük bir dildi. Ben Fransızca okudum gençliğimde Fransızlar Fransızcanın vuzuhu diye övünürler. Fransız dilinin kesinliği tamamen laf.

Kesinlik İngilizcede. İngiliz dilinin kesinliği İngilizce şimdi herkes bildiğine göre vasat bir İngiliz-Amerikan yazarını alın okuyun vasat yani çok parlak Nobellik veya çok vasatın altında kitap da çıkarmazlar. Çok sansür ederler. Kağıdı kalemi Allah yarattı, herkes böyle harcayamaz diye düşünürler.

Kelime çıkaramazsınız bir İngiliz’in, bir Amerikalı Anglofon bir yazarın cümlesinden kelime alırsanız cümle bozulur. Fransız’ınki alsanız bir kelime iki kelime hepsini alsanız fazla değişmez. Bu kadar önemli bir dil gibidir diyordu Redhouse. 1890’da iki dilde de yüzer bin kelime şeyi alırsanız Redhouse’un lugatını görürsünüz.
