Winner of the Presidential Culture and Art Grand Prize, Ayla Algan was a Yunus Emre lover. She made a Yunus Emre album in German, French and English. She named her daughter Sevi, inspired by Yunus Emre’s poem. Ayla Algan was the first Turkish artist to perform at the famous concert hall Olympia in Paris.

She was the first name to introduce Yunus Emre to the world

Ayla Algan, an artist who lives music and theatre arts intertwined, was the first person to introduce Yunus Emre to the world by reciting Yunus Emre’s poems in German, French and English with poems and songs. (The bağlama and arrangements on the LP released in 1970 belong to my brother, the late Cemil Demirsipahi, whom I am proud to be friends with, a gracious man who served as the Coordinator of Musicology at Hacettepe University Institute of Music and Fine Arts and as the Head of Turkish Folk Music and Dances at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Musicology. It is a unique performance).

Algan, who appeared on stage at the famous concert hall Olimpia in Paris in 1971, attended Peter Brook’s Theatre Workshop at the Recamier Theatre directed by Jean L. Bazault in Paris in 1972. She lived in Paris between 1972 and 1979 and was interested in music.

In 1972, at the request of the Ministry of Tourism, she prepared an album for the 650th anniversary of Yunus Emre. Ayla Algan named her daughter, born in 1975, “Sevi” after Yunus Emre.
